Nail-biting times!

Hello and welcome to our new blog spot!

You join us at a particularly nail-biting time with only one more sleep until our first Britain In Bloom national finals.  Three members of the team travel to Llandudno tomorrow where we’ll be joined by the Mayor of Trafford, Councillor Jonathan Coupe and Trafford Council’s Head of Environmental Services, Tara Dumas.  By the end of the night, we’ll know how Altrincham has fared in the minds of experienced professionals. It’s going to be Bronze, Silver, Silver Gilt or Gold and we have no idea which!

It’s incredible to think that this is really happening just four years since volunteers started organising Altrincham’s ‘Britain In Bloom’ entry.  We are just enthusiastic amateurs so it’s extremely gratifying to be representing the North West in this prestigious competition.  We thank North West In Bloom for the faith and confidence they have placed in us and hope to do them proud.

It has been a crazy year – one which has required a great deal of sacrifice, patience, commitment and humour. Since last October, we have transformed a project with a very small group of volunteers into a fully fledged Community Interest Company with a committee of 16, each contributing their own unique talents. Crucially, the number of regular horticultural volunteers has also begun to grow steadily.

We have a lot more to do in Altrincham but are gradually achieving sustainable improvements on all levels. At the core of our success is innovation, collaboration and cooperation. We share so many aspirations with other organisations such as Altrincham Unlimited and Trafford Council, so these partnerships come quite naturally.

I am extremely proud of our team and wish to thank each and every one of them for their contribution to our 2016/17 entry.  I also wish to thank the business community for their ever-increasing support and the public who are so appreciative of our work.

We are already hard at work delivering, planning and fundraising for our 2017/18 entry and hope to continue making Altrincham blossom.  Join or help and support us so we can continue making Altrincham a place to be truly proud of.

Yours,

Sarah Walmsley

(Chairman, Altrincham In Bloom)
